Homework/Assignment : Each week we will provide you with some exercises that you need to complete. You will only hand in the exercises listed as compulsory.
Book and covered material : The course will follow the book "Linear Algebra and its applications", Davix C. Lay, Steven R. Lay, Judi J. MacDonald, 5th edition. A priori, we will cover chapters 1, 2, 3, 5, 6.
Syllabus : A priori we will follow the syllabus proposed by the Math department. However, it may change given the interest of the class.
Additional References : We will use the book "Introduction to Linear Algebra" , Gil Strang, 4th edition as extra reference material. You can access the rest of the chapters in the library.
Attendance : You are expected to attend classes and discussions. You are expect to read the material signaled in the Syllabus before each class (you will have to answer a small quiz before some randomly chosen classes)
Piazza : This term we will be using Piazza for class discussion. Find the class page here.
Blitz-quizzes : We will have book-keeping blitz-quizzes (10 min) at randomly chosen classes. The lowest score will be dropped. They will count for a 5% of the final grade.
Coding questions : Given that the ultimate goal of learning linear algebra is to solve real-world problem, which in return are solved using computers. You will learn how to use a modern high-level scripting language such as julia or MATLAB to apply what you will learn in class.
Course Grade :
- 5%: Blitz-quizzes
- 10%: Homeworks
- 15%: Coding Homeworks
- 30%: Midterms: 15% Friday 01/29/2016 and 15% Friday 26/02/2016
- 40%: Final
